New guides available on working with freelancers

We're pleased to share that we've worked in partnership with South West Museum Development on a set of principles for commissioning and working with freelancers, and practical guides on:

• How to commission freelancers in a fair, inclusive and transparent way

• How to write an effective freelance brief

• Contracts, work plans and working effectively with freelancers.

This was a key area of need that our 2020 survey into freelancing in the sector identified.

South West Museum Development is committed to upholding these principles in their own work and through the funding they provide, encouraging those working or planning to work with freelancers to read and follow the guides.

We're really encouraged by their leadership and commitment to developing fair and inclusive procurement practices and successful working relationships between museums and freelancers, and hope that other sector support organisations will make similar commitments.
